Workers Live Drawing

Last night I photographed a really fabulous event, Rebecca Davies’ Workers Live Drawing at the Roundabout pop-up theatre in Hanley which was part of the Appetite Stoke programme. This was a celebration of Northern Soul which back in the early 70’s and still is one the great cultural and special about Stoke-on-Trent. It was celebrated through a full audience drawing tableau, objects and dancers, with a wonderful selection of soul music and the feeling of a great night out! The highlight was two young Northern Soul dancers (Poppy Beresford and Sally Molloy) who leapt and swirled around the stage recreating the unique style which was seen at The Torch in Tunstall in the early 70’s, for the audience to attempt to capture their movement. Calum Murphy did a brilliant job of the sound!

I was really pleased that Rebecca allowed me to photograph this event and I used some long exposures to try and capture the feel of the dance.

Keep the Faith (as they say)
